On Local Likelihood Density Estimation When the Bandwidth Is Large

چکیده
In this paper, we provide a large bandwidth analysis for a class of local likelihood methods. This work complements the small bandwidth analysis of Park, Kim and Jones (2002). Our treatment is more general than the large bandwidth analysis of Eguchi and Copas (1998). We provide a higher order asymptotic analysis for the risk of the local likelihood density estimator, from which a direct comparison between various versions of local likelihood can be made. The present work, being combined with the small bandwidth results of Park et al. (2002), gives an optimal size of the bandwidth which depends on the degree of departure of the underlying density from the proposed parametric model. AMS 2000 subject classifications. Park Estimation of Kullback – Leibler divergence by local likelihood
Motivated from the bandwidth selection problem in local likelihood density estimation and from the problem of assessing a final model chosen by a certain model selection procedure, we consider estimation of the Kullback–Leibler divergence. It is known that the best bandwidth choice for the local likelihood density estimator depends on the distance between the true density and the ‘vehicle’ para...

This article uses local polynomial techniques to t Whittle's likelihood for spectral density estimation. Asymptotic sampling properties of the proposed estimators are derived, and adaptation of the proposed estimator to the boundary eeect is noted. We show that the Whittle likelihood based estimator has advantages over the least-squares based log-periodogram. The bandwidth for the Whittle likel...
متن کاملThe Development of Maximum Likelihood Estimation Approaches for Adaptive Estimation of Free Speed and Critical Density in Vehicle Freeways
The performance of many traffic control strategies depends on how much the traffic flow models have been accurately calibrated. One of the most applicable traffic flow model in traffic control and management is LWR or METANET model. Practically, key parameters in LWR model, including free flow speed and critical density, are parameterized using flow and speed measurements gathered by inductive ...

متن کاملLocal bandwidth selectors for deconvolution kernel density estimation
We consider kernel density estimation when the observations are contaminated by measurement errors. It is well known that the success of kernel estimators depends heavily on the choice of a smoothing parameter called the bandwidth. A number of data-driven bandwidth selectors exist in the literature, but they are all global. Such techniques are appropriate when the density is relatively simple, ...
